Tomorrow you will submit your Writer's Notebook with your Argument of Definition: Is this act courageous? (Criteria-based Definition of Courage Practice Essay). Your thesis statement/claim should begin with the following language:
(hook) "Courage is....."
(thesis/claim): "For an act to be courageous, it must meet the
following four criteria:
a.__________________________________________________________
b.__________________________________________________________
c.__________________________________________________________
d.__________________________________________________________

I have also posted a sample news article at the bottom of this post.
For this essay you do not have to cite Author's Words Exactly (A.W.E.). Every paragraph must make specific references to the news article that you found and explain whether the action meets each one of your four criteria.
Tomorrow we will begin class taking the STAR Reading Assessment,.
***As Ms. Fishman stated, it is important that we monitor both attainment and growth.
Next week we will have "Shout Outs" for achieving high scores (meeting and exceeding Reading benchmarks) as well as for demonstrating growth (most improved over previous test).
After the STAR testing, learning activities will include interactive vocabulary (Vocabulary.com) and small group Socratic Seminars exploring our current text, Elie Wiesel's Night.
*Friday we will have a reading and vocabulary quiz covering page 1-67.
There will be no surprise questions.
